Bishop Lynch overcame a slow start during the first day of competition to grab a spot among the top finishers during the first-ever TAPPS 7-on-7 State Championships, held last weekend at TCA-Addison.

During pool play Friday, the Friars dropped two of their first three contests, but bounced back to rout their next four opponents and earn a spot in the championship bracket the following day.

Bishop Lynch earned five wins during pool play, beating Tyler All Saints, John Paul II, Frisco Legacy, Waco Vanguard and Garland Christian.

On Saturday, the Friars topped Dallas First Baptist in a quarterfinal matchup before falling in a close semifinal game against St. Pius X with a 42-35 final score, sending the Friars to the third-place game against rival Bishop Dunne. The Friars fell just short against Dunne to finish fourth overall.

Houston St. Thomas defeated St. Pius X in the all-Houston championship game to win the title and complete a 10-0 run through the tournament.

The 2015 Lineman Challenge ran concurrently at the TCA Athletic Training Center, with eight BL linemen competing together in events such as bench press, farmers walk, medicine ball throw, tire flip, 120-yard relay and tug-o-war.

The Friars finished first in the bench press event, second in the 120-yard relay and dominated the tug-o-war competition to finish third overall in the team standings.
