Bishop Lynch High School Class of 2015 graduate, Anna Rose McGoldrick, has been awarded a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship for 2015-2016 and will study Arabic in Morocco for the summer.
Anna Rose is one of only 620 competitively selected students from across the United States who will receive a scholarship to study Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Russian or Turkish overseas this year. While in Morocco, Anna will receive formal instruction and informal language practice in an immersion environment.
No stranger to honors or accolades, Anna Rose was a stellar student while at Bishop Lynch, earning a place on the Academic Honor Roll each year of her high school career. She was also an outstanding member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, National German Society, National English Honor Society and the Brighter Future for Kids organization. Her volunteer work included partnerships with The Dallas Stewpot, St. Vincent de Paul and Dallas Life Foundation. As if all that was not enough, Anna Rose is also an accomplished Irish dancer, and has been placed into the “Prizewinner Level” of Irish dancing, an International recognition. Anna Rose graduated in the top 10% of the Bishop Lynch Class of 2015 and plans to attend DePaul University in the fall.
"Bishop Lynch High School has prepared me well for the NSLI-Y program through its strong academic curriculum, for which I am very thankful,” Anna Rose said. “I was inspired by my peers and encouraged by my teachers to pursue this incredible opportunity."
The NSLI-Y program seeks to increase the number of Americans who can engage with native speakers of critical languages. The goals of the NSLI-Y program include sparking a life-long interest in foreign languages and cultures, and developing a corps of young Americans with the skills necessary to advance international dialogue and cross-cultural opportunities in the private, academic and government sectors.
