CELINA — For the second straight week, a huge second quarter enabled a Bishop Lynch opponent to grab a huge momentum swing. This time, the fourth-ranked Celina Bobcats (4A) were the benefactors, posting a 27-point period to pave the road for a 51-14 non-district win over the Friars on Friday at Bobcat Stadium.

Celina (3-0) opened the scoring with a big play, a 74-yard touchdown pass from Conner Pingleton to John Franklin, giving the Bobcats a 7-0 lead midway through the opening frame. Pingleton finished the game with 342 yards and three scores through the air.

The Friars (1-2) answered, marching down the field to tie the score on Tristan Smith's 1-yard run. Sergey Blansit booted the PAT to make it 7-7 with 2:25 left in the period.

Unfortunately, the game took a turn just a few minutes later.

Celina went ahead for good on a one-yard run by Shane Gerths, then made it 21-7 just a few minutes after that on Pingleton's 56-yard pass to Riley Nebeker. With just 28 seconds left in the half, Pingleton and Nebeker hooked up again on a 15-yard pass to make it 27-7.

With halftime on the horizon, the Bobcats were able to get in another shot, returning a fumble 34 yards for a score to give the Bobcats a 34-7 halftime advantage.

Celina added a pair of short TD runs by Ismael Ortiz in the third period, and took a 51-7 lead following a field goal midway through the fourth.

Bishop Lynch got in the end zone just three minutes before the final horn with Smith's 28-yard scoring pass to Sam Beasley.

Celina ended the game with 534 total yards while the Friars managed just 181, punting eight times. Jermaine Mask led the Friars with 74 rushing yards. Michael Menditto and Zach Russell spearheaded the BL defense.

The Friars return home Friday to host Midland Christian in their district opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game can be watched live on Sportsgram.net.
