The defending state champion Lady Friars started the new season where they left off the last — in the win column — posting a 2-0 shutout win at TCA-Addison on Monday.

Sophomore Aly Simpkins notched the first goal of the season, scoring off an assist from Anna Schrader with 13 minutes to play in the first half.

Senior Danielle Velasquez doubled the lead with a goal just four minutes later. Alexis Sanders assisted the goal.

Bishop Lynch (1-0-0) outshot TCA's Lady Trojans by a 17-2 margin. Goalkeepers Mica MacKay and Alicia Issac combined to earn the clean sheet, helping a defensive effort spearheaded by seniors Atu Mshana and Lexi Alexander, as well as sophomores Jordyn Beard and Kaitie Gittemeier.

The ladies will return to action Thursday night in a huge rematch with Ursuline Academy. The junior varsity match will begin at 5 p.m. at Ursuline, followed by the varsity match.
