The game was postponed 24 hours thanks to heavy rainfall arriving late in the week, but neither the schedule change or wet turf could slow Bishop Dunne, which left Roffino Stadium on Saturday with a 54-21 win over Bishop Lynch.
Dunne (8-0, 5-0) stayed unbeaten in district play while dropping the Friars to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in a very muddled District 1-5A. Currently, four teams are tied for fourth in the district with identical 2-3 league records.
The top three in the district are Dunne, followed by Prestonwood Christian (4-1) and Liberty Christian (3-2). Lynch finds itself locked up in a four-way tie with Midland Christian, Nolan Catholic and this week's opponent — Trinity Christian.
The Friars slowed Dunne for most of the first period Saturday, but great field position set up the Falcons' first score — a one-yard pass from Caleb Evans to Geraud Sanders — with 2:55 left in the quarter.
On the final play of the opening frame, Evans and Sanders hooked up again, this time on a 79-yard pass play giving the Falcons a 13-0 lead.
Evans and Sanders connected again midway through the second quarter to make it 20-0, and Daniel Esparza was good on a 47-yard field goal as Dunne took a 23-0 halftime lead.
It was 33-0 in the third before the Friars finally wiped their zero off the scoreboard. Tristan Smith scored all three BL touchdowns on runs of two, 15 and two yards. Evans tossed two more scoring passed in the fourth period, giving him six in the game.
Evans passed for 298 yards and Sanders hauled in five passes for 156 yards to lead in those categories. Jermaine Mask led all rushers with 111 yards on 21 carries. Smith ran for 62 yards and passed for 193.
Will Gates hauled in a game-high eight passes for 70 yards and Nico Jordan caught six passes for 70 yards.
The Friars will travel to Tom Landry Stadium in Addison on Friday to face TCA in a district contest with major playoff implications.
