The BL Aqua Friars had their second meet of the year Thursday night, hosting Mesquite ISD and Bryan Adams at the Knights of Columbus pool.

The Men's team had a good performance and fought hard, but lost to Bryan Adams 94-76, with Mesquite ISD finishing third with 52 points. 

The Friars were led by Junior Will Eckles, who won the 100-yard backstroke in a personal best time of 1:02.04 seconds, and who also won the 500-yard freestyle. 

Eckles got support from:

• Junior Sean O'Hare, who won the 50-yard freestyle and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, missing first place by 0.45 seconds;

• Junior Captain Eric Bray, who finished second in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke;

• Junior AJ Armenta, who finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 58.76 seconds;

• Freshman Josh Ponewash, who finished third in the 200-yard freestyle; and

• Freshman Joe Weber, who finished third in the 50-yard freestyle.

 

O'Hare, Weber, and Armenta teamed with sophomore George Smith to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Eckles, Bray, Smith and Armenta joined to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay, and Eckles, O'Hare, Bray and Weber combined to finish third in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Lady Friars scored their second victory in as many meets this year, scoring 112 points to 79 for Mesquite ISD and 28 for Bryan Adams. 

The Lady Friars were led by two multiple-event winners — Junior Bonnie Nolan, who won the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle, and Freshman Ailish Tierney, who won the 50-yard and 500-yard freestyle races. 

Other performances of note were:

• Senior Captain Jessica Jordan, who won the 100-yard backstroke and who finished second in the 500-yard freestyle;

• Junior Jesseca Hageman, who won the 100-yard breaststroke and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle;

• Senior Jordan Carl, who finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 100-yard butterfly;

• Junior Niamh Tierney, who finished second in the 100-yard butterfly;

• Senior Shauna Seidel, who finished third in the 100-yard backstroke and fourth in the 200-yard individual medley; and

• Freshman Kate Hickerson, who finished third in the 50-yard freestyle.

 

Nolan, Seidel, Carl and Niamh Tierney joined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay, while Niamh Tierney, Nolan, Carl and Jordan combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay. Hageman and Seidel grouped with Ailish and Niamh Tierney to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Friars will take on Lovejoy on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus pool. This will be Senior Night, where we will honor our three seniors for their four years of outstanding contributions to the team —  captain Jessica Jordan, Jordan Carl and Shauna Seidel.
