Friars run wild for win over Irving, 52-13

An explosive rushing attack paired with a suffocating defense led Bishop Lynch to a 52-13 rout of the Irving Tigers on Friday at Irving Schools Stadium.

The Friars (1-1) posted a 35-7 halftime lead in a game that was never close once it began. Jaire Moore rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns, including a 90-yard run in the third quarter that put the proverbial bow on BL's first win under head coach Chuck Faucette.
The defense forced four turnovers, as sophomore Grayson Murphy picked off a pass and recovered a fumble, returning it 20 yards for a score just before halftime. Keion McGee intercepted two Irving passes.

Landry Kershaw rang up 17 tackles and forced a fumble, Daniel Packard had 17 tackles and a sack, Davis Peck was in on 14 stops and Jacob Lewis had a hand in 13 tackles. Carson Garrett made all seven PATs and a 30-yard field goal, his first at the varsity level.

Jermaine Mask rushed for 94 yards, including the game's opening score, an 8-yard run to put the Friars in front after their opening possession. Moore added a 5-yard run on the next series to double the lead at 14-0.

Irving appeared to be making a game of it, slicing the BL lead in half on James Miles' 23-yard run, but the Friars ended the half with 21 straight points — a 15-yard run by Moore, a 39-yard TD pass from Jagger LaRoe to Jarek Broussard and Murphy's scoop and score.

Miles scored again for Irving early in the third period, but Moore sprinted past the Tiger defense for a 90-yard score on his final carry to put it out of reach. In the fourth, Garrett booted the field goal and sophomore Jack Taylor scored his first varsity touchdown on a 10-yard run.

Bishop Lynch outgained Irving 450-170 and didn't commit a turnover one week after losing four against Texas High.

The Friars will return home Friday and host Kaufman for their final non-district contest. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
