Shorthanded BL battles hard in loss at Plano West

Despite missing a key piece of their lineup, the Bishop Lynch Lady Friars still competed well despite falling at Plano West on Tuesday night.

The Lady Friars (6-4) pushed Plano West in all four sets but fell by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-17.

Bishop Lynch was without senior Bri Kipp, an all-district performer in 2015, who was out with an injury.

Despite Kipp's absence and some lineup shuffling, head coach Tricia Roos was still pleased with her team's effort.

The Lady Friars will head to Allen this weekend for the 2016 Texas Open. Bishop Lynch will compete in Pool 8 with Flower Mound Marcus, Lindale and Frisco Lone Star.

On Friday, the Lady Friars will take on Lone Star at 9 a.m., Lindale at 11:30 a.m. and Marcus at 2 p.m. All pool play matches will take place at the Lowery Freshman Center in Allen.

The tournament includes a total of 32 teams, including some top-notch programs in host Allen, McKinney Boyd, Lovejoy, Waco Midway, Lewisville and the Lady Friars.

The Bishop Lynch junior varsity (1-1) also competed at Plano West on Tuesday, falling in a tough three-set match with scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-17.

Lucy McGarry (24 assists), Julia Lewis (22 digs) and Chidera Osuagwu (eight kills) led the way for Bishop Lynch.

The JV and sophomore teams will compete Saturday at the 15th Annual Texas Premier JV Tournament in McKinney.

The JV will be grouped with Shepton and Lone Star while the sophomore team will be grouped with Plano West and Frisco Liberty for pool play.

Both pools will play at McKinney Boyd High School, starting Saturday at 8 a.m. on a rolling schedule.
