Lady Friars sweep JPII in district opener

District play couldn't have started any better for Bishop Lynch, which swept three matches at John Paul II and another against Williams without dropping a set Tuesday.

The varsity (14-7, 1-0) swept the Cardinals (9-13, 1-1) by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-13, extending their district win streak to 33 straight. 

Several members of the team stepped up to put JPII away easily. Madi Tyus paced the offense with 11 kills and three aces to go with seven digs. Melanie Heigele had 45 assists and eight digs.

Others making significant contributions were Bri Kipp (10 kills), Hannah Puddy (eight kills), Hannah Osborn (12 digs), Lauryn Green (eight kills, five blocks), Kenzie Colvin (seven digs) and Morgan Hinds (15 digs).

The Lady Friars will be on the road once again Thursday to face Parish Episcopal at 6 p.m. Parish (9-8-2 overall, 0-2 district) is still searching for its first district win.

The junior varsity will begin at 5 p.m.

The JV (8-4, 1-0) swept John Paul II with scores of 25-14 and 25-12. Isabella Springman tallied eight digs and seven kills, while Alex Galicia had a match-best 15 assists.

The sophomore team (6-2-1, 2-0) swept Williams at home by scores of 25-9 and 25-8. They will face Clark on the road Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The freshman ladies stayed unbeaten (4-0) with a sweep of JPII in their district opener, winning by scores of 25-18 and 25-11.
