The second of two scrimmages for the Bishop Lynch football team was most impressive Friday evening, despite some changes in the schedule due to weather.

All three BL teams were scheduled to scrimmage Kimball at Sprague Stadium, but heavy rain flooded the area and led to the cancellation of the subvarsity portion.

Once the weather cleared up, the varsity team took the field just after 7 p.m. to take on the Knights.

Kimball's offense was unable to get anything going to start the scrimmage, as junior defensive back Benn Cole stopped a series with an interception near midfield.

The Friars, however, hit paydirt on their opening series, using a number of dazzling plays from junior Jarek Broussard to set up senior Jaire Moore for a short touchdown run.

BL's second defensive unit shut down Kimball once again and the second offense moved the ball well behind some big runs by Jack Taylor, but could not add any points.

Kimball's only big play of the evening produced the Knights' only points as the hosts converted a short pass into a long run that ended in the end zone.

The Friars would respond very quickly, with Broussard running for 40 yards on the first play of the series. Moore gashed the Kimball defense for a 24-yard TD just moments later.

All in all, it was an impressive showing for the Friars, who will shift their focus now to Texarkana Texas High, which will come to Roffino Stadium on Friday to open the 2016 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
