Senior swimmers recognized prior to meet victory

The Bishop Lynch AquaFriars closed out their home schedule Thursday night against Woodrow Wilson High School. 

It was Senior Night for Jesseca HagemanBonnie NolanNiamh TierneyEric Bray, Will Eckles, Sean O'Hare and Will Seidel.

It was a good night for both the men and ladies teams. The Friar men scored a victory in the meet, defeating Wilson by a score of 99- 62. The men were again led by Eckles, who won the 100-yard butterfly in a personal best time of 1:01.05 seconds, and also won the 200-yard freestyle.  

The Friar fortunes also got a boost from junior George Smith, who won both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke, both in personal best times.

Other good showings were by:

  • Sean O'Hare, who won the 100-yard freestyle;
  • Eric Bray, who won the 500-yard freestyle and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle; and
  • Joe Weber, who won the 50-yard freestyle.

O'Hare, Eckles, and Weber joined with Killian Baker to lead a sweep of the 200-yard freestyle relay, while O'Hare, Bray and Eckles combined with Shaughnessey Smith to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Lady Friars ran their record to a perfect 3-0 on the season, defeating Wilson 91-77. The Lady Friars were led by Lindsay Hudspeth, who won the 200-yard individual medley and led a sweep of the 100-yard butterfly. 

Other fine performances were given by:

  • Niamh Tierney, who won the 50-yard freestyle and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly;
  • Bonnie Nolan, who won the 200-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 2:10.49 seconds, and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke;
  • Ailish Tierney, who won the 100-yard freestyle; and
  • Annie Zajicek and Elli Jordan, who finished 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Niamh Tierney, Nolan and Jesseca Hageman teamed with Ailish Tierney to win the 200-yard freestyle relay, and Hudspeth joined Niamh Tierney, Hageman and Nolan to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.  

The Friars' next meet will be October 22 at 1 p.m. versus JP II and Nolan Catholic at the Knights of Columbus pool.
