The Woodrow Wilson Wildcats, the number one ranked offense in 4-A, checkmated the high-powered offense of state-ranked 3-A Argyle High, 64-53, in Saturday’s (February 18) DISD post season boys basketball showcase at Ellis Davis Field House.
Woodrow, ranked ninth in Texas 4-A, outscored Argyle, ranked 11th, in the second half and hit 19 of 25 from the free throw line.
The Wildcats’ Trey Washington had a game-high 31 points, making many from the free throw line. Zach Coleman had 10 points and six rebounds and Sterling Turner had nine points and seven assists.
Final Dallas Morning News area rankings have Woodrow at number three after its resounding defeat of the Hillcrest Panthers. ESPN Dallas ranks the Wildcats as No. 2.
Woodrow’s quest for its first state basketball championship since 1938 begins at 6:30 pm Tuesday with a match against the Pinkston Vikings at Ellis Davis Field House on S. Polk off I-20. Woodrow’s principal, Kyle Richardson, formerly coached at Pinkston.
